Rotherham residents urged to sign up with local NHS dentists

The residents of Rotherham are being encouraged to sign up with local dentists by NHS Rotherham.

Almost 70 percent of NHS dental practices in the area are currently accepting patients, yet one in five local people have not been to the dentist for more than two years.

Ken Wragg, consultant in public health, said that there has been significant investment in NHS dental services in the Rotherham area and urged local people to take advantage of the service and register with their local dentist.

Attending regular check-ups with the dentist allows dentists to keep an eye on developing oral health problems and identify early warning signs of serious illnesses, including oral cancer; frequent routine check-ups also help to prevent common oral health conditions, such as gum disease and tooth decay.

Many practices are now accepting NHS patients and members of the public are advised to contact the surgery directly or contact NHS Rotherham for details of their nearest NHS practice.
