Sample News Big

A Rolls Royce, which was used as a mobile dental unit in the First World War, is up for auction. The Silver Ghost is estimated to be worth around £800,000.

The luxury car, which was used as a mobile dental surgery during the war, is part of a collection of classic cars up for auction at the Goodwood Festival of Speed auction. The auction will be hosted by Bonhams.

The car was used as a mobile dental unit by a previous owner, an affluent French-American man who was living in Paris in 1913. Auguste Charles Valadier was the car’s second owner who later became an influential figure in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. When war broke out in 1914, Mr Valadier offered his services to the British Red Cross Society base in Paris and he later established the first dental unit dedicated to Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.

By 1916, Mr Valadier had relocated to Boulogne, where the car had been adjusted to include a dental chair in the back.

The 1913 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost London-to-Edinburgh is being sold by Bonhams and is expected to reach around £800,000.

After trailing the streets of France providing urgent dental treatment, the car has been used as a limousine.
