A road hog dentist has been fined for clipping a pedestrian with his car and swearing at her.
Keighley dentist Phillip Bennett clipped the unnamed woman with the wing mirror of his BMW’s and has now been fined £350 for careless driving.
The 50-year-old was initially charged with dangerous driving but prosecutor Heather Weir accepted his guilty plea to the lesser offence of careless driving at Bradford Crown Court yesterday.
The court heard how Bennett struck the woman’s hand with his BMW while she crossed the road to her car which was parked in Lord Street in Keighley town centre.
Mrs Weir said the dentist swore at the woman, who was not named in court, because she pointed at him when he drove on the hatchings in the centre of the road.
Keighlynews.co.uk reported that Bennett’s car then struck the woman causing her to drop her shopping and leaving her “shaken and distressed”.
Andrew Dallas, the road hog dentist’s barrister, told the court that his client was of “good character”.
Bennett spent hundreds of pounds combating the dangerous driving charge which was dropped by the court.
In addition to the £350 fine, the NHS dentist had five penalty points added to his driving licence.
