A study has revealed that the Tooth Fairy is more generous than ever before, leaving an average of $2.42 per tooth.

The survey, which was carried out by Delta Dental, showed that the average donation from the Tooth Fairy was higher than ever before; the 2012 figure was 15 per cent higher than the average in 2011.

According to financial experts, the statistics also bode well for the economy; the study, which was first conducted in 1998, compares the average Tooth Fairy donation to the activity of the stock market to reflect the value of a lost tooth. More than 1,200 parents and guardians were surveyed via email to calculate the average amount given for a lost tooth.

The poll also revealed that the Tooth Fairy tends to be more generous when a child loses their first tooth with an average donation of $3.49.

Some parents have shared concerns that too much money is being thrown at children; Monica Bielanko, a blogger for a parenting website, said that parents are already spending a lot on Christmas, birthdays and Easter and now the Tooth Fairy seems to be getting increasingly generous. Monica is keen to preserve the magical tale of the Tooth Fairy and plans to leave her children $2 worth of quarters sprinkled in fairy dust.
