News reports have confirmed that two British men have died in Malta after getting into trouble when swimming near the Blue Lagoon in Comino.

One of the men was airlifted to hospital and the other taken by boat, but neither could be saved, despite the best efforts of medical crews. The men have been named as Lyace Ali and Kameron Shabir. Both men were dentists from Birmingham. It is believed that the men were enjoying a bank holiday getaway. They were also joined by Hussein Ahmed, who managed to survive the incident.

Reports revealed that the three men started to experience difficulties when they were swimming at the popular Blue Lagoon site. Although rescue crews tried to help them, they sadly lost their lives shortly afterwards.

The three men were business partners and owned a dental clinic in Sheldon. Dr Ali, who lived in Solihull with his wife and three children, also owned two practices in Scotland.

The news has rocked the local community, as the three dentists were very popular figures and many are in shock that they will not be returning from their trip abroad. Local business owner Qumar Zamen, from the hardware shop opposite the Sheldon clinic, said that everyone knows each other in the area and the dentists were “very well-liked.” Mr Zamen added that they will be sadly missed by colleagues, patients and friends in Sheldon.
