NHS England has provided welcome relief for dental patients in Spalding after confirming that a new caretaker service will launch in September. The news comes shortly after it was revealed that 1A Dental, which is based at Johnson Community Hospital, is pulling out of its NHS contract due to “ongoing running costs.”

NHS England has confirmed that a ‘caretaker’ service will be operational from September, enabling patients to continue accessing dental treatment at the centre. The closure of 1A was covered in the local paper, and it sparked widespread panic among readers who were unaware of the plans. 1A will close on the 31st August and the new temporary service will be up and running by the middle of September. In the meantime, if anybody needs urgent dental care, they are advised to contact NHS 111 to find out about other local services, which can provide emergency treatment.

A spokesperson for NHS England stated that 1A Dental will cease providing NHS treatment at the hospital from 31st August, but encouraged patients not to worry, as alternative arrangements have been put in place to prevent disruption and enable patients to continue accessing treatment at the facility. Di Pegg, head of primary care at NHS England, confirmed that members of staff currently based at 1A will be offered the chance to move over to the caretaker practice.
