Residents of Redditch are more likely to lose teeth than the average West Midlander, new research has confirmed.

Data analysed by mydentist, which has 200,000 patients in the local area, showed that dentists extracted 15.66 teeth per 100 patients, which is higher than the average in the West Midlands (10.53) and the national average (11.14).

Mydentist clinical services director, Steve Williams, said that there has been an influx of people coming to the mydentist surgeries who haven’t seen a dentist for years, and it’s clear for dentists to see the impact of skipping routine appointments. If you go for long periods without seeing a dentist, this can put you at risk of decay, gum disease and subsequent tooth loss. Research suggests that approximately 60 percent of cases of decay could be prevented, and the mydentist teams across the country are keen to spread the news that it pays to take good care of your teeth and gums.

As well as regular dental checks, dentists also recommend twice-daily cleaning and moderating your intake of sugary and acidic foods and drinks.
