A US Air Force group based at RAF Alconbury has paid a Cambridge dental clinic a visit to gain an insight into how the clinic runs and provides NHS care.

A group of five lead by  the chief of dental clinic with the 423rd Medical Squadron, Major Tad Tholstrom, was given a tour of the Dental Access Centre to see how it operates and gain an understanding of the NHS services on offer. Dr Maria Ross-Russell, Head of Dental Services at Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust,  was also in attendance. The group also got the chance to meet staff members from the clinic and the trust.

Major Thalstrom is currently seven months underway with a 3-year tour in the UK and described the day as a brilliant experience and a valuable means of seeing how a good quality clinic runs on a day to day basis, interacts and works with other health providers and deals with potential issues in order to meet expected standards.

Major Thalstrom said that there are definitely elements involved in the running of the clinic, which he is keen to incorporate into the dental services provided by the squadron. He also said that it was a great honour to be able to reside in the UK and be part of a partnership, which is going from strength to strength.

The Dental Access Centre gives patients access to emergency care 365 days a year, as well as services including anxiety management and minor surgery.
