Popular Reading dentist bids farewell to patients after more than 40 years in the job

A dentist from Reading has downed his drill and bid farewell to patients after more than 40 years in the trade.

One of the town’s most popular and respected dentists, Bakhshish Ranu, has retired at the age of 74 years old, having spent more than our decades treating patients. Dr Ranu previously owned the Shinfield Road Dental Practice.

Dr Ranu said that times have changed, and modern dentistry is very different to the practice he entered as a young man decades ago; however, he is as committed to the importance of patient-centred care as he was back then, and believes that family dentistry still have a very important place. Many other dentists have diversified and started offering cosmetic treatments and facial aesthetics, but Dr Ranu stuck close to his roots and by the time he retired, he had treated several members of the same family and multiple generations. Although dentistry is much more modern and technology is everywhere, Dr Ranu believes that it’s as important to connect with patients and build a trusting relationship today as it was years ago.

Dr Ranu has been inundated with cards, well wishes and gifts, and he now plans to spend more time with family and to travel He has plans to visit relatives in India in the coming months.
