A dental clinic in Plymouth will be closed for a minimum of three more weeks following an arson attack, health officials have confirmed.

A fire broke out at the Dental Access Centre in Baring Street on the 2nd August. Fire crews were called to the scene just after 7pm after smoke was seen pouring out of the back of the building. The clinic was immediately closed down due to safety concerns, and officials have now revealed that it will remain closed for at least three more weeks.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire, but police officers believe that the fire was started deliberately.

At present, the clinic is undergoing repairs and renovation work, as one of the treatment rooms has been badly damaged. Representatives from Livewell Southwest, the organisation that operates the clinic, confirmed at the time of the fire that the surgery would remain closed until it was safe for the public to gain access. Patients have been advised of the situation, and treatment is being provided at three other clinics across the city.

Anyone who has an appointment booked or queries about arrangements in place while the Dental Access Centre is closed is advised to call 01752 434664. Further updates will be available in the coming weeks.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said that the team is working on the basis that the fire was started deliberately at the rear of the building.
