A Perth dental team put in a superhuman effort to raise money for a local boy recently. Daragh Beattie, whose father, Stephen, is a dentist at Infinityblu Dental Care, was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition when he was born and has spent weeks in hospital during his short life. The 18-month-old suffers from delayed development and Stephen and his partner, Lisa are unsure how the condition will affect Daragh’s health and mobility as he gets older.

To raise awareness of undiagnosed genetic conditions, Stephen wanted to host a fundraising event in aid of the charity, SWAN UK. The charity has been providing support for Stephen, Lisa and Daragh over the course of the last few months, and it provides valuable advice and emotional guidance for parents and children who are struggling to come to terms with a diagnosis that leaves so many questions unanswered. Around 6,000 children are born in the UK with syndromes that don’t have a specific name. Daragh had early symptoms that indicated that something may not be quite right, but it wasn’t until he reached the age of around 8 months old that it became obvious that his development was delayed. After numerous tests, hospital stays and assessments, Daragh’s condition has still not been diagnosed.

The team at Infinityblu’s Pitlochry and Dunkeld clinics wanted to do something fun to raise funds for SWAN UK, so they dressed up as their favourite superheroes for the day. The team has also organised a raffle, which will be drawn in a couple of weeks, and a ‘name the bear’ competition.
