Pensioner suffers Dental Injuries after tripping over Speed Bump

A pensioner has criticised Surrey County Council after his wife sustained severe dental injuries after tripping over a traffic calming speed bump in Ewell Village.

Michael Doughty contacted the council and encouraged them to remove the speed bump, claiming that it is a “fatality waiting to happen.” Mr Doughty said that his wife had sustained severe injuries after crossing the road in Ewell Village last year; she tripped over the bump and had to be helped by passers-by. Mrs Doughty was taken to an emergency dentist and it was confirmed that she had cracked her jaw. Mrs Doughty ended up with a bill for £1700 as a result of her injuries.

Mr Doughty is now campaigning for the speed bump to be removed and claims that the injuries to his wife could have been much worse. This was not the first incident in the village; in April last year, Maria Meredith tripped over the same speed bump and suffered severe bruising and cuts and grazes.

A spokesman from Surrey County Council said that there was no record of any complaints in the area; however, he said that the case will be investigated and if there are safety concerns about the speed bump, action will be taken.
