Pennsylvania dental therapy dog embarks upon festive fundraising mission for local animal shelters this Christmas

A dental therapy dog who usually helps patients to feel relaxed in the dental chair has turned his attention to raising funds for local animal charities and shelters.

Dogtor Gizmo, who helps out dentist Kevin Mahoney at Sleep Dentistry Erie, can usually be found in the waiting room or treatment room, offering much-needed moral support for patients who are nervous about having dental treatment. The popular therapy dog is known for helping patients, both young and old to feel calm, but as Christmas approaches, he’s doing even more to bring smiles to the local community.

Gizmo’s Facebook page recently launched an appeal for photographs of rescued and adopted pets, which will be used to create a calendar for 2019. The calendars are available for a fee of $15 and the proceeds will be donated to a host of animal charities and shelters, including A.N.N.A Shelter, H.O.P.E, Millcreek Animal Hospital Angel Fund and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The clinic is also collecting donations, such as toys, food and bedding to take to the A.N.N.A shelter.

Dogtor Gizmo will be spreading festive cheer at the office in the run-up to Christmas on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10 am and 6 pm and on other weekdays by appointment.
