Patients forced to make alternative arrangements following NHS cuts

Sixty patients have been forced to make alternative arrangements following NHS cuts in Barnet.

The cuts, which have been made as a result of “financial pressures”, have forced patients to find alternative places to receive treatment following the closure of the Dental Access Centre at Edgeware Community Hospital. The dental centre was closed on Monday.

NHS Barnet said they had no choice but to close the dental centre and were relying on spaces at other NHS facilities in the local area to provide treatment for the displaced patients. According to NHS Barnet, there are currently 71 spaces in surgeries across Barnet.

A spokesperson for the NHS said that wise spending was of paramount importance in this age of cuts and restricted budgets; in order for the deficit to be cut, every department must make savings and money must be spent more wisely. Programmes which are not cost-effective will have to be scrapped as the government try to reduce the spiralling debt.

Staff from NHS Barnet say that the patients who were previously treated at Edgeware Community Hospital will now be treated at other surgeries in the area; they will try to make the transition as smooth as possible.
