Queensway Dental Clinic is heading the fight against rogue aesthetic practitioners, who are providing poor quality services.

Queensway themselves offer facial aesthetic services such as Botox and dermal fillers, but does so using skilled and qualified practitioners, so their patients will only experience the results they wanted.

However, many unqualified uses of such products have results in botched procedures, a number of which the Queensway staff have had to treat.

Professional associations have also started to monitor the use of non-surgical facial treatments, with the Royal College of Nursing only allowing practitioners who are qualified and have sworn to specific codes of conduct and professional protocols to be added to a register and insured for the treatment they provide.

This register can be viewed online, which can help patients looked for certified and skilled practitioners who are qualified to provide facial aesthetic services. Without experience or insurance, treatment with an unqualified provider can lead to unpleasant and difficult results for the patient, who will have no protection or compensation for their troubles.

Rebecca Hierons, an oral surgeon from Queensway Dental Clinic spoke upon the subject of unqualified practitioners and botched treatments, saying, “Facial aesthetics are medical treatments and as such involve certain risks. Therefore we firmly believe that you should not be able to provide this service without thorough education, training and experience. There are “cowboys” in every industry, but in this case it can seriously compromise the health and safety of the patient.”

She also discussed the safety of the treatment when used by a trained professional and also the situations when facial aesthetic treatments are offered that patients should avoid:

“Non-surgical cosmetic treatments such as botulinum toxin and fillers have been practised successfully for many years by trained professionals in a safe environment. But rogue practitioners are threatening the reputation of the industry and more importantly may harm those patients who are relying on their supposed expertise. Astonishingly people are still willing to accept a medical procedure in their own home or at a party.”
