Patient Travels Over 90 Miles To Conquer Phobia

Sample News Big

Huddersfield resident David Slack, had refused to go to the dentist for almost 24 years, suffering from dental phobia. It was only until a close friend told him of a new dental facility, located 90 miles away in the North East. Billingham’s Queensway private Dental Clinic is in collaboration with Hartlepool’s University hospital to provide patients with an answer to all kinds of dental-based phobias by putting patients under general anaesthetic.

Despite the long journey Mr Slack made contact with dentist, Dr Paul Avery and went for a consultation. After voicing his concerns and discussing his phobia of needles, the dentist made the required checks to see if his patient was healthy enough to undergo that kind of treatment.

After the consultation, Dr Avery admitted his patient to the hospital to be anaesthetised, before treatment to remove teeth and intensive polish was commenced.

After suffering like many patients with this type of phobia for many years, Mr Slack explained it was his profound fear of needles that prevented him from seeking the appropriate dental surgery, further damaging his oral hygiene. It also affected his personal life in that he was discouraged from drawing a smile.

It was only as the crisis deepened that he decided professional help was needed.

Patients with similar phobias are encouraged to contact there nearest anaesthesiologist for a consultation. Prospective patients should be aware the cases are dealt on individual suitability. Patients are instructed to reach the dental clinic at Queensway on 01642 554667
