Dental patients in Rochdale, Middleton and Heywood are invited to attend free one-to-one oral health sessions as part of National Smile Month, which will run from 20th May to 20th June.

The sessions will enable people to seek advice from dental professionals and discuss oral health issues, ways to prevent oral health problems and dental treatment.

The drop-in sessions will be held at Nye Bevan House on Monday 20th May between 10am and 3pm, Croft Shifa on Thursday 23rd May between 10am and 3pm and Middleton Arena on Monday 10th June between 10am and 1pm.

Currently, oral health schemes, Tooth Time and Brushing for Life, are being rolled out in schools around the region with the aim of reducing rates of decay and encouraging children to learn good dental hygiene habits. Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 students from 69 schools in the borough will receive a toothbrush and toothpaste pack over the next five years.

The Public Health Team and Oral Health Promotion Unit will also be working closely with five schools, including St Peter’s C of E Primary School, St Gabriel’s, Castleton, Bowlee Park Community School, Bellfield Community School and Stansfield Hall Primary School, during National Smile Month.

National Smile Month is an annual campaign run by the British Dental Health Foundation; the aim is to raise awareness of the importance of good oral health. The charity is highlighting 3 main steps for good oral health and these include brushing the teeth twice a day for 2 minutes with fluoride toothpaste, visiting your dentist every 6 months for a check-up and avoiding sugary foods and drinks.
