Nottingham Dentist Raises Thousands For Gaza Fighting Victims

A dentist from Bramcote, near Nottingham, has raised thousands of pounds to help victims of fighting in Gaza; Furzana Hameed was holidaying in Jordan last year when fighting broke out and she decided to do something to help those affected by the unrest on her return to the UK.

Ms Hameed decided to start supporting the charity, Islamic Relief, and organised a charity dinner to raise money to provide medical aid to people living in the Gaza Strip. The dinner took place at the Indian Community Centre in Carrington on December 15th and in total, the dentist has managed to raise more than £30,000 for the cause.

She organised the event while carrying out her day job of treating patients and she said that although it was a very busy time, the dinner was a great success and lots of money was raised to help those affected by the fighting. Ms Hameed said that many people were left in tears after hearing a talk at the dinner by a member of staff from Islamic Relief.

The response from the people of the East Midlands had been very encouraging, but eight days of fierce fighting broke out in November and there is still a great deal of unrest in the region.
