A dental receptionist from Northwich, Cheshire, has bid a fond farewell to patients and colleagues after 30 years at the same practice. Mary Harris is retiring at the age of 68, having spent three decades at Witton Street Dental Practice.

Mary, who lives a stone’s throw from the clinic in Rudheath, said that she had made the decision to retire because she felt it was the right time, but insisted that she would miss her colleagues and the patients. She said that she had loved her job and vowed to stay in touch with the many friends she has made over the years. Mary described herself as a “people person” and said that she thoroughly enjoyed interacting with patients on a daily basis and getting to know her co-workers. Over the decades, Mary has watched children turn into adults and return to the practice with their own children, and she’s been at the heart of community for years. Her husband jokes that they can never go anywhere without Mary bumping into patients and she will be missed by everyone.

Mary was treated to a retirement party after her final shift, which was attended by staff both past and present and a number of patients. Practice manager, Clare Martin, said that Mary was loved by patients as well as the dental team.
