A dental practice in North Yorkshire provided free dental check-ups for a choir visiting from Africa last week.

The team from Peasholm Dental Practice in Scarborough extended the invitation to the Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir, who were visiting the area from Uganda. Members of the choir have been staying with host families in the local area and are travelling around the UK for 3 months to raise money for the Pearl of Africa Child Care Charity. The charity provides food parcels, shelter, clean water and basic medical supplies for families living in poverty in the Kampala and Masaka districts of Uganda.

Principal dentist, Andy Moran, said that it’s a great honour to welcome the children to the practice. The choir is working tremendously hard to raise money for people living in poor conditions back at home and this was the least the team could do to help out. Many of the children in Uganda don’t have access to a dentist, so the children were really grateful for the care they received from the team. This is the third year the choir has visited Scarborough and everyone was pleased to meet the children.

The children received a routine examination, as well as fluoride varnish and sealant treatment. These preventative treatments help to protect and strengthen the teeth and reduce the risk of cavities.

The children were delighted to meet the team and many said they were already looking forward to visiting again next year and enjoying another session in the dental chair.
