A dental nurse from North London has travelled to Cambodia to provide oral health education as part of a charity project run by the Hope Agency.

Puja Parmar, from Harrow, is spending time in rural villages located several hours from the capital city of Phnom Penh. Puja, 31, has taken a huge collection of oral hygiene supplies with her, and she will be providing valuable educational sessions and talking to children and adults about oral health, as well as handing out toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste.

Puja, who is based at Northwick Park Hospital, has made the trip with the Hope Agency, a charity that provides skills training for children from underprivileged backgrounds.

Up to 1 in 5 children living in rural Cambodia have never brushed their teeth before, and Puja is keen to give parents and children the resources and information and advice they need to improve their oral health.

Puja paid for the trip and the dental supplies herself with the help of donations from colleagues, friends, relatives and local businesses. As well as offering oral health education, Puja will also be helping out in the rice fields and teaching English during her trip.
