A nine-year-old Californian girl has won a competition with her design for a new toothbrush.

Ambria Schneringer, from Ripon, was named as the winner of the Be a Dental Inventor Contest.

The competition, which is part of National Children’s Dental Health Month and sponsored by Dr Fresh, asked kids from across the US to draw and describe innovative concepts for toothbrushes that would encourage youngsters to brush their teeth.

Schneringer’s design The White Bright is based on video games and allows children to compete against each other by achieving a best brushing score.

She said that parents for the first time would now be nagging their kids to play video games.

The White Bright won Schneringer a $500 US savings bond and a trip to Disneyland (all expenses paid).
