Newcastle United’s new signing was denied a visa to the USA after it was revealed that he had failed to pay a dental bill on a previous visit.

Summer signing Yohan Cabaye was denied entry to the United States for the club’s pre-season tour, because he failed to pay for dental treatment carried out while he was playing for French club, Lille.

Cabaye denied that he had failed to pay the bill and Newcastle did eventually manage to get the charge overturned, however, it was too late and the squad had already travelled, leaving the newest addition to the team at home.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said it the situation was frustrating because it was the case of the player’s word against somebody else’s. Eventually the ruling was overturned, but the process took too long and there was no option but to leave the player at home.

Two other players, Nile Ranger and Joey Barton were also refused visas, because they have a criminal record.
