A new NHS dental practice has opened in Canford Heath, near Poole.

The Neighbourhood Centre Dental Practice has opened in a former doctor’s surgery, which was burned to the ground in an arson attack two years ago. The practice was officially opened by local MP, Annette Brooke.

The centre occupies the same plot as the former surgery in Culliford Crescent. In June 2012, a bin next to the surgery was set alight and forth fire fighters worked to extinguish flames at the site. The building was completely ruined.

General manager of the new surgery, Lukasz Drozdiel, explained that the surgery is owned by Dentapol, which has nine clinics, including seven based in Dorset. The new Canford Heath surgery will only replace the existing surgery in the area, but will also act as the company headquarters.

Around 90 per cent of the work that will be carried out at the surgery will be NHS dentistry, but private dentistry is also available.

MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, Annette Brooke, said that the celebratory opening had gone very well and added that she was honoured to be asked to cut the ribbon. She also welcomed the addition of a new NHS surgery in the area, which will enable local people to access high quality care on their doorsteps.

Ms Brooke said she had been campaigning for NHS services to remain in Canford Health for a long time and explained that she was delighted when news of the new surgery broke.
