After years of campaigning by local residents and extensive building work, a new hospital is set to open its doors to patients in Bristol.

Residents in the south of the city have been campaigning for a hospital for decades and this Friday their wishes will be granted, when the South Bristol Community Hospital opens its doors to the public.

The hospital boasts a range of services and will house a brand new community dental unit. The current unit at Bristol Dental Hospital will move to the community hospital in April. The NHS walk-in centre, which is currently operating from the Knowle West Health Park, will also re-locate to the hospital and it is anticipated that around 900 patients will use the service every week.

Additional services available at the hospital will include outpatient diabetes and heart clinics, paediatric services, rehabilitation and GP out of hours service.

Dental students in their fourth and final years will be working at the clinic and also visiting schools and community health centres to hone their clinical skills and spread the message of the importance of oral hygiene, regular dental checks and healthy eating.

The hospital will open for the first time on Friday and services will be transferred to the hospital over the next three weeks.
