New dental surgery to open in former NatWest branch in Canford Cliffs

A new dental surgery is set to open in Canford Cliffs. The new practice will be located in the unit previously occupied by NatWest Bank.

The building on Haven Road has been vacant since October 2017, but now, plans have been revealed to bring a new dentist to Poole.

Helen Harris, council officer, said that it was beneficial to fill vacant units to contribute to the local economy and ensure an “active frontage.”

Richard Mears, from Pure Town Planning, stated that the dental surgery would draw customers into nearby local shops, as patients are likely to visit stores before or after their appointment. There are currently a number of vacant units in the same stretch, four of which are set to be converted into a new Tesco Express shop.

Mr Mears, who submitted the application on behalf of dentist, Mr Taherir, said that the number of vacant units indicated that there was a lack of interest in commercial properties, and suggested that a dental surgery would provide a useful alternative to retail shops and stores. There are currently no other practices within the local area, and the surgery will enable residents to access services without travelling further afield. The practice will also provide 6 full-time jobs and the team will comprise of two dentists, two dental nurses and two receptionists. The surgery will be open from 9 am until 6 pm six days a week.
