Neuromuscular dentures 'optimise occlusion'

Neuromuscular dentures 'optimise occlusion'Neuromuscular dentures reduce the need for adhesives and ensure a natural fit, according to Dr Mike D Deldar.

Writing in the Nobelsville Daily Times, the Hamilton County dentist explained that dentures are often fitted in a position not always exactly right for the patient.

This is because without teeth a patient has no natural bite for the dentist to use as a reference for occlusion - how the upper and lower teeth fit - and therefore must just choose the jaw position, he said.

However, with neuromuscular dentures, a myomonitor delivers gentle electrical stimulation to the jaw muscles, Dr Deldar continued, meaning the face becomes relaxed.

"Now a sophisticated jaw tracing computer determines within a one-tenth of a millimetre the optimal position of your occlusion," he explained, adding: "With neuromuscular dentures you have harmony between your jaw, muscles and joints."

Over 11 million people in the UK currently wear dentures, with over a million of these aged 30 or under.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18554594-ADNFCR
