Mydentist research makes difficult reading for Hebburn residents

New research released by one of the UK’s leading dental providers, mydentist, has revealed that residents in Hebburn are more likely to lose more teeth than average.

New figures show that standards of oral health are below average in the area. The extraction rate in Hebburn is 19.18 per 100 people compared to a national average of 11.14 and a regional average of 12.22.

Clinical services director at mydentist, Steve Williams, said that there has been an increase in the number of patients turning up at the practice who haven’t seen a dentist for at least a year; some haven’t even been to a dental practice in the last five years. It’s clear to see the impact avoiding regular dental appointments has on oral health, and dentists are eager to encourage patients to keep up to date with regular checks. Research suggests that seeing a dentist frequently can reduce your risk of developing cavities and gum disease by 60 percent.

The mydentist dentists recommend 6-12 monthly checks, combined with twice-daily brushing at home with fluoride toothpaste. Anyone who hasn’t seen a dentist for a long time is advised to contact their local mydentist practice, and arrange an appointment. The Hebburn practice is located on Station Road.
