More People to Be Granted Dental Care in County Clinton

Sample News Big

Clinton County dentists work in a community classified as a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA).

The Clinton County Community Dental Clinic has provided around 3000 treatments to a number of uninsured patients since 2009 but simply cannot afford to do this anymore.

Fortunately, a recent $7,500 grant from the Blue Ribbon Foundation of Northern Pennsylvania means that the clinic can extend its opening hours. The dental practice can now attend to another 100 uninsured patients during the year as a result of this.

Executive Director of the Clinton County Healthy Communities, Laurie Welch, recently stated that “Proper oral health care is vital to staying healthy”. She also expressed her gratitude to the Blue Ribbon Foundation for their generosity.

Around 15% of the community, that’s 4,500 people, are living below the poverty line. Laurie says that the funding will definitely make a difference in the region.

Cynthia A. Yevich, director of the Blue Ribbon Foundation, states that the grant will help provide a number of preventative dental procedures, which include early treatments and screenings. She finally goes onto say that “poor oral health has physical health implications” and then talks about the link between gum disease and cardiovascular disease.

The grant should provide a number of patients with free preventative care.
