Mini-implants"cost-effective"

Mini-implantsA new type of small dental implant for denture wearers is now available from the Stamford Dental Group.

Dr Jack DeGrado said the so-called mini-implants are metal posts surgically inserted beneath the gum, which are then attached to the dentures.

They are much smaller and cheaper than conventional dental implants and will help keep dentures in a better condition for a longer period of time, he told the Stamford Times.

"These mini-implants will require less surgery than regular implants," said Dr DeGrado in an interview with the newspaper.

He added: "They will also be more affordable for people, which are two major things patients look for."

The procedure costs around $2,000 (£1,000), a quarter of the price of conventional denture implants.

According to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, more than a quarter of US adults have lost all their permanent teeth by the time they are 74 years old.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18598087-ADNFCR
