The London Dental Fellowship has revealed details of donations made by members of the trust.

Smile Train, an international charitable trust, which provides care for children with cleft lip and palate, will receive £2000 from the fellowship and a further £2000 will be given to Bridge2Aid, a charity that provides dental care for people in Tanzania.

Smile Train enables children affected by cleft lip and palate to undergo surgery; the charity also provides training for medical professionals. The charity targets children in developing countries and volunteers have helped children in 78 different countries. Clefts are very common in developing countries and it is very difficult for parents to afford treatment for their children.

Bridge2Aid was set up to help people in areas of Tanzania; dental health problems are amongst the most common health conditions in Tanzania and there is a severe shortage of dentists. Many people struggle to access a dentist, even if they can afford treatment. The charity helps to provide care for Tanzanian people and also educates local people about oral hygiene and the importance of good oral health; volunteers also give out oral hygiene products to encourage people to look after their teeth and gums.

The London Dental Fellowship was established over forty years ago and members meet six times a year at charity dinners, seminars and lectures. The group is limited to fifty members and members must attend a minimum number of meetings to retain their membership.
