A local dentist has urged students from Northallerton School and Sixth Form College to ‘live life to the full’ at an annual celebration event.

Simon Stretton-Downes was invited to the college as guest of honour at the annual celebration, which is designed to recognise academic achievement and inspire students as they move onto the next chapters in their lives. At the event, awards are given out to students who have excelled in their academic studies, as well as those who have shown dedication to community projects and volunteering.

Speaking to the audience of pupils, Mr Stretton-Downes encouraged the youngsters to take the path that is right for them, to aim to fulfil dreams, and to learn from the people around you. He also said that every person is different, and what’s right for one pupil may not always be the best choice for another. The main thing, he explained, was to ‘live life to the full’ and move through life without regrets.

Mr Stretton-Downes has worked in general dental practice, as well as participating in charity work and volunteering projects abroad. He spent several years working as a civilian dentist with the Army, and he has also travelled to Ethiopia as part of a Christian mission.
