Liverpool University′s dentistry department will “remain open”

Professor Callum Youngson of the Liverpool University has denied media reports that the University’s dentistry department is under threat of closure.

Earlier this month, the Liverpool Echo reported that it had seen leaked documents suggesting that eight departments – including dentistry – needed urgent review and could possibly be axed. The Echo reported that improving research to an international standard was the reason behind the move.

But Professor Youngson has now quashed these rumours. “We have already been reviews and I can confirm that the dental school will remain with teaching and research as its core business,” he said.

“I am happy to confirm that the speculation about closure is completely incorrect.”
