Following a period of closure for a whooping nine and a half million pound makeover, Leeds Dental Institute has reopened its doors.

The institute now has some of the best facilities worldwide and will give dental students access to some of the best dental educational devices in the world.

As well as an impressive range of teaching materials and facilities, the institute now provides dentists, dental students, dental nurses, hygienists, therapists, technicians and of course, patients with first class equipment for dental procedures following the investment.

The institute site boasts a range of new and improved facilities compared to the old Dental Institute, including a new entrance and reception area, over 100 new dental chairs, an X-raying department, an impressive 24 surgeries and on site NHS consultants to provide advice and specialist treatment.

The training centre has been equipped with a number of state of the art training mannequins that have “been hailed as the most innovative and advanced in Europe.” According to Dr Margaret Kellet, the director of Leeds Dental Institute, who also said, “Thanks to this very significant investment we have transformed the building and provided a state of the art facility where more dental students will be able to receive top quality training in a modern environment.”

The complete overhaul that cost 9.5 million pounds comes after an initiative by the Department of Health and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, which began in 2005 and aims at greatly improving dental training for undergraduates following a noticeable lack of dentists within the NHS.

The Leeds Dental Institute has been completely transformed and employees hope that it will soon become one of the most highly regarded training institutes in the country following its opening ceremony earlier this week on the 4th of July.
