Leamington dentist warns patients against getting treatment abroad

A Leamington dentist has warned his patients against having dental treatment abroad.

Roy Dixon, from the Augusta Dental Centre, said that an increasing number of holidaymakers are being approached by representatives from dental clinics and practices during their holiday. Dixon says that tourists are being targeted by dentists, who are using low prices and glossy brochures to tempt new clients.

Mr Dixon said that unfortunately horror stories of treatment abroad are becoming increasingly popular and what seemed like a good deal at the time is proving to be a huge mistake, as patients face costly bills to correct botched treatment on their return to the UK; a procedure which has gone wrong could cost thousands of pounds to correct, meaning that the treatment would have been considerably cheaper if the patient had the treatment in the UK.

Mr Dixon said that there were a huge number of very professional clinics abroad, who were offering patients excellent standards of dental care and customer service; however, he also said that people should be wary of ‘cowboys’ who are looking to make a fast buck and are targeting vulnerable people, who have let down their guard because they are on holiday.

Mr Dixon’s concerns are shared by the British Dental Health Foundation, with representatives warning patients about travelling abroad for dental treatment. An increasing number of patients are choosing to go abroad for treatment, as prices are often considerably cheaper and they can combine having their treatment with having a holiday; however, standards of cleanliness and levels of expertise may not be as high as in the UK and patients are more likely to have problems during and after the procedure; in the long run it may cost them a lot more because they have to return to the UK to have the botched procedure fixed.

My name is Kimberly and I also recieved botched dentistry abroad in Costa Rica. The dentists is just outside of San Jose Costa Rica. Medical tourism is a multi billion dollar a year industry in over 50 countries. Millions of Americans flock abroad each year for affordable medical and dental procedures. Unfortunately, there is much hype in the media and on-line about this growing trend and not much information on the risks and legal aspects involved when a person recieves botched treatment abroad. The dentist I picked broke my tooth causing 3 root canals to be preformed while under his care, left me with 10 open margins ( the crowns are popped off the teeth ) and most importantly he screwed up my bite so badly that I now suffer severe TMJ, can’t eat or speak properly etc… This man refused to refund the small fortune that I paid him and refuses to pay to have my teeth fixed. The price to fix my bite alone is $35,000 ( which I don’t have ) plus thousands more for additional root canals that I need because of this neglegent crook. I hired an attorney in Costa Rica but, their legal system is extremely corrupt and seeking justice is quite honestly a joke. If you’d like to see my story in better detail you can find it on U-Tube under “WARNING MEDICAL TOURISM NIGHTMARE IN SAN JOSE COSTA RICA” you’ll get the full picture of igzactly what happened to me and you’ll also get an idea of just what you are up against in the legal system of these latin countries. You will learn how you can and will be charged with a felony, arrested and put in prison for complaing about your botched treatment publically as well. I’m very serious, please watch my video before you consider leaving your own country for any medical procedure.
