Lasers replacing drills in cosmetic dentistry

Following FDA approval, a number of American dentists are now using lasers in general and cosmetic dentistry, it has been reported.

The Chicago Herald stated that teeth whitening, biopsy or lesion removal, gum disease treatments and fillings can all be prepared for by the use of lasers.

It has been claimed that it is a time-saving method which also reduces the pain of dental treatment for patients.

"It’s a lot more comfortable for them because there is less pain involved. Because the laser anesthetises the tooth, most of the time you’re able to do a procedure with little or no pain," commented Joliet dentist Dr Thursher Patel.

Dr Patel said he anticipates that many patients will soon insist on laser treatment as it increases in popularity.

Further cosmetic dentistry developments were revealed by the Millennium Research Group’s US Markets for Crown & Bridges 2008 report which claims that to meet patient demands, cosmetic dentists are implementing computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing technology.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18449426-ADNFCR
