Students in King’s Sutton had plenty to smile about receiving a visit from the mobile dentist.

Pupils from King’s Sutton primary School were treated to a visit from a Big Smiles mobile unit. Big Smiles is a national scheme, which provides children with educational programmes that are designed to improve their oral health. Nearby practice, mydentist Cornhill Dental Centre in Banbury is one of many practices participating in the Big Smiles scheme and recently, the team took a trip to the school to show the students around the bus and encourage them to take part in a number of dental-themed activities.

Treatment coordinator, Sami Hasan, explained that a tour of the Big Smile bus is one of a number of activities that are geared towards getting kids interested in dental health and giving them important information about how to look after their teeth. The aim is for children to learn about issues such as brushing their teeth properly and making healthy food choices. The team ran games and children also took part in puzzles and fun tests, which will hopefully enable them to take better care f their teeth and gums going forward.

The visit was organised by the deputy head of the school, Emma Palastanga, who saw the activities advertised when she went to the Banbury surgery for a check-up. After making arrangements, Ms Palastanga was delighted with the outcome of the session, and the feedback from the children has been really positive.
