Kidderminster Hospital unveils new state of the art dental scanner

A new, state of the art dental scanner has been unveiled at Kidderminster Hospital. The intra-oral X-ray scanner, which cost £15,000, will enable orthodontic clinicians to treat patients faster and prevent some patients from having to travel further afield to hospitals in Worcester.

The scanner was funded by the League of Friends of Kidderminster Hospital. In the past 12 months alone, the organisation has contributed £120,000 worth of funding to the hospital.

The intra-oral scanner provides much more detailed images of the mouth than those obtained by traditional X-rays, and the new piece of kit will enable orthodontic practitioners to treat a wider range of patients on-site with reduced waiting times. The addition of the scanner will also diversify the range of services available at the hospital. Previously, patients who needed advanced treatment, which was planned with the help of scanning units, would often have to travel, usually to a hospital in Worcester.

Numerous other departments have benefited from funding drives by the Friends of Kidderminster Hospital in the last year, including the ante-natal, ophthalmology, dermatology and physiotherapy departments. The charity raises money by organising events and collecting money through the hospital café and shop.
