Patients and members of staff at a Keighley dental surgery were evacuated on Monday 30th November after a fire broke out in the basement.

Fire crews from Keighley and nearby Bingley were called to Oasis Dental Practice in Devonshire Street after a fire broke out at around 2 o’clock in the afternoon. Crews later established that a compressor unit had caught fire.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said that the flames had gone out by the time fire fighters arrived at the scene, but there was a lot of smoke in and around the building. Patients and members of staff had already left the building and crews worked to clear the smoke and make the surgery safe.

Nobody was harmed in the incident and the spokeswoman confirmed that there was only limited damage inside the basement. Luckily, the fire was detected early and people inside the surgery were able to evacuate quickly.
