Jose Mourinho Prepares for New Season by Putting United in the Dental Chair

New Manchester United Boss Jose Mourinho has called in a local dentist to carry out a pre-season dental hygiene check on his squad.

The team, including captain Wayne Rooney, underwent the dental examination at their training ground in Carrington last month. It is believed that oral health status can indicate underlying health or injury issues.

A report carried out in November revealed that more than three quarters of footballers, including some at Manchester United, have gum disease, whilst 40% have cavities.

The study suggested that bad food choices and sugar were to blame for causing the decay, which had an impact on the players’ wellbeing and performance. It was carried out by University College London and discovered that footballers at clubs such as Manchester United, Swansea, Southampton, Hull City and West Ham might have greater levels of tooth decay than the general population, perhaps due to drinking excessive amounts of sports energy drinks. The researchers at the University’s Centre for Oral Health said there was an ‘urgent need’ to tackle low rates of dental hygiene amongst football players.

According to a source, Jose is interested in every detail of his players’ lives, so he was pleased to get the local dentist to have a look at their teeth, though it’s safe to assume some of the players weren’t quite so thrilled!
