Jaguar Land Rover has purchased a Newport dentist’s classic car collection in a deal worth £100 million.

James Hull, 53, has collected cars over a prolonged period of time, amassing a total of 543 cars, including more than 130 Jaguars. Mr Hull opened his first dental clinic in 1987 and went on to establish an extremely successful chain, known as James Hull Associates. His first practice was located in Newport.

Mr Hull has travelled extensively over the years with a view to expanding the car collection and he decided to put the cars up for ale earlier this year. He said that collecting had been “a labour of love” and stated that he was determined to find a buyer who would cherish the cars as much as he had over the years.

Mr Hull’s collection boasts some amazing vehicles, including a Bentley, which was previously owned by Elton John, a Jaguar owned by the founder of Jaguar, Sir William Lyons and some early examples of the Austin Seven.

John Edwards, director of special vehicle operations at Jaguar Land Rover, said that it is an honour to take over the collection, which has been painstakingly maintained, from James Hull.

Mr Hull described Jaguar Land Rover as the “perfect custodian” and said that he was excited to see how the firm takes the collection into the future.
