Jacksonville dentists offer free dental care to local people

A small group of Jacksonville dentists offered their services for free in a special two day clinic, which was set up to help local residents.

The dental fair, which has now become an annual event, has proved a great success in the past and this year was no different, with dentists treating more than two hundred local Arkansan residents. The fair, which is now in its third year, was held at the Jacksonville community center.

Local dentist, Jordan Cooper, who is also the founder of the annual dental fair, said the clinic was a resounding success and a great opportunity for local dentists to reach out into the local community to help those people in need; he added that some of the patients were in desperate need of dental care and would have suffered a great deal of pain and discomfort without the help provided by the Jacksonville dental fair. Many of the patients that turned up at the fair had not visited a dentist for several years and were suffering from widespread tooth decay and gum conditions; without the help offered by clinics like this one, they would never get the help they need because they don’t have insurance and cannot afford treatment.

The situation in Arkansas is exemplary of many states and cities across America, where there is a shortage of dentists offering affordable care and a high proportion of patients without insurance policies to cover the costs of dental care; free clinics offer extremely valuable services but they are only able to help a very small number of patients.

It is hoped that the changes to health and dental care in the future will put an end to the soaring numbers of people who are missing out on essential dental and healthcare; President Obama has vowed to make the health system much more accessible and equal and this should improve the situation for millions of Americans.
