Irish Dental Practice Aims To Put A Stop To Booming Dental Tourism Market Outside Of The Republic

An Irish dental practice is following the business model of Ryanair and slashing prices to attract new clients and prevent patients from the Republic of Ireland travelling overseas for treatment.

MyDental, which is based in Ballsbridge, near Dublin, has drastically reduced prices in order to lure new patients. The practice promises to match lower fees charged in Northern Ireland to discourage patients from the South crossing the border or jumping on a plane to Eastern European countries to take advantage of lower costs.

Clinical director of the clinic, Gerard Egan, said that the prices offered by MyDental are not competitive with those marketed by Eastern European clinics when travel and accommodation costs have been taken into consideration and encouraged Irish patients to stay at home for treatment. The clinic has already carried out more than 8,000 patient consultations and the price reduction seems to have had the desired effect.

Mr Egan insisted that the quality of materials is the same as usual, but he is bulk buying and this means that reduction in expenses can be passed on to patients. His experience in business enables him to drive hard bargains and seek out the best deals and this has allowed him to make significant reductions in patient fees.
