Iowa uni dental dean gets award

A University of Iowa dean has been awarded a special prize for his public service to dentistry.

Dean of the university’s College of Dentistry, Dr David C Johnsen has been given the Jack Hein Public Service Award 2010 by the American Association for Dental Research (AADR).

Dr Johnsen will be given the award at special ceremony on 3 March 2010 at the AADR’s annual meeting in Washington.

AADR president Bill Marshall said that Dr Johnsen had been an outstanding advocate for dentistry and added that he had contributed significantly to the AADR Government Affairs Committee.

Dr Johnsen won the award for his extensive work to raise funds for with National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research and the National Institutes of Health.

He regularly travels to Washington to with state senators on oral health issues.

The Jack Hein award honours those that work in public affairs to promote oral health causes.
