An inspirational dental nurse from Essex has set her sights on Paralympic glory after losing her leg in a horrific motorbike crash last year. Kerry Waters has been riding horses since she was a toddler and dreamed of reaching the Olympics. However, her life was turned upside down when she was involved in a serious accident last October.

Kerry, 30, suffered life-changing injuries when she crashed into a ditch while riding her motorbike last year. She was thrown from the bike into a telegraph pole and a supporting wire sliced her leg, leaving her with life-threatening injuries including a broken femur and severe grazing all over her body. She was airlifted to hospital and placed in an induced coma while doctors treated the most severe injuries. At the time, doctors wondered if Kerry would ever be able to walk again, let alone ride, but just four months later the determined dental nurse is up and about and looking forward to the future.

Kerry admits that she has always been sporty and she was eager to get back into the saddle as quickly as possible. She now uses a prosthetic leg and enjoys walking and going to the gym, as well as riding.

After struggling to come to terms with the effects of the accident immediately after the crash, Kerry is now much more optimistic and dreams of success with the British Paralympic team. She has joined the local Riders for the Disabled Association and is working hard to reach the required standard.
