Hundreds of dental patients were given something to smile about at the inaugural Lumino Day last weekend; the free dental day, which was hosted by Lumino the Dentists, was a huge success.

Fifty dentists, 15 dental hygienists and around 100 support staff joined forces to treat hundreds of patients on Saturday 25th May, providing $120,000 worth of dental care at Lumino the Dentists practices all over New Zealand. The Lumino Day event was a joint initiative between Lumino the Dentists,New Zealand’s largest dental chain, and KidsCan. A variety of treatments were on offer for parents and family members of the children in the KidsCan campaign.

Kerry Dunphy, marketing manager at Lumino the Dentists, described the free dental day as “an incredibly uplifting and positive experience” and added that many of the people who attended the clinics had not seen a dentist for a long time and were extremely grateful for the help of the dentists and their support staff.

In total, 370 patients received treatment and feedback from patients and volunteer dentists was very positive. The team is already looking forward to planning similar events in the future.

Kerry said that many of the patients had very touching stories and were excited and thankful to receive treatment free of charge. Tony Dey, who had travelled especially from Auckland to help out for the day, was greeted with a chocolate cake by one patient. While another patient was very grateful for treatment after being turned down for a small bank loan to pay for a procedure that he was advised to have by his own dentist.
