A group of dental nurses are celebrating after gaining new qualifications; the nurses, from Queensway Dental Clinic, gained the new qualifications at the centre’s on-site education and training facility.

The seven nurses successfully completed a 20-week course in Dental Sedation Nursing and an Oral Health Certificate at the Queensway Dental Clinic Education Centre in Billingham.

Tutor Colette Meek has been working at the education facility for more than seven years and she successfully guided the seven nurses, Louise Kinchin, Jen Maloney, Holly Hubery, Leigh Stewart, Lauren Ellis, Jade Hand and Lisa Cotson, through the training courses.

The courses involved a combination of clinical training and theory tests; the nurses were required to hand in a portfolio as well as passing a written and oral examination.

Colette said that she was delighted that all the girls had successfully passed the exams; she added that training and education were high up on the list of priorities at Queensway. Colette also said that it was important that dental nurses had access to further training to develop their skills and expand their knowledge base.

Jade Hand, one of the triumphant nurses, said that the courses have numerous benefits; the clinic has recently opened a new purpose-built oral health room and she will now be able to run sessions about oral health and oral hygiene to help patients prevent oral diseases.
