A team of dental workers from Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust will visit Malawi as part of a long-standing relationship between the NHS trust and the city of Zomba. The team will be providing dental care and equipment, as well as offering training activities.

Team leader, Dawn Barber, said that is a great deal of excitement among staff about the impending trip and everyone is looking forward to visiting Malawi, even though they are aware that it will be very hard work. The team is prepared for major differences between the UK and Malawi, but is looking forward to using their skills to benefit others.

The team will be visiting ZombaCentralHospital between the 12th and the 23rd May. The Dental Department is extremely busy at the hospital, with a total of seven members of staff, including one dentist and six dental therapists, treating in excess of 90 patients per day.

The Harrogate dental team will be helping to support the hospital staff by providing treatment and they will also be taking equipment with them and spending time training dental workers out in Zomba.

All the members of staff going on the trip have taken annual leave.
