Chewing gum giants Wrigley have today launched their oral health care program in India.
India is the latest of 46 countries to take part in the Wrigley Oral Healthcare Programmes (WOHP) which aim to support dentists across the globe.
WOHP provides oral health professionals with resources and information so they can promote a healthy dental routine amongst their patients.
Indiaenews.com reported that Gautam Sharma, managing director of Wrigley India, was excited about promoting and improving oral health in India.
WOHP aims to support independent clinical research into preventive dentistry while taking into account the Indian diets and lifestyles.
It will also aid dental professionals to continue education programs, and cultivate oral health education using digital media, brochures and working locally in schools with parents, teachers and kids.
President of the Indian Dental Association (IDA), Dr. Paramjit Singh believes good oral hygiene to be essential for overall health, saying: “Bad oral health can result in heart disease and strokes that can be potentially fatal.”
Dr Singh also stressed that oral health in India is an increasing concern for IDA. However, he was delighted that Wrigley decided to instigate the program in the country.
According to Wrigley, chewing sugarfree gum produces an increased amount of saliva which can reduce tooth decay by up to 40 per cent. If you accompany chewing regularly with a healthy dental routine the likeliness of tooth decay can be significantly reduced.
