Green Party launch election manifesto

The Green Party have launched their election manifesto, with environmental issues and health and social care at the heart of their campaign.

One of the most attractive policies for voters is likely to be the pledge to try and make NHS dental care free for all. Dental care has been singled out as a concern in conversations between politicians and local people right across the country, with many struggling to find an NHS dentist that is taking on new patients and many patients having to either travel for long distances or wait long periods of time for an appointment; this is particularly common in more rural areas.

All the major political parties have pledged to improve the efficacy of the NHS, despite many promising to make budget cuts. Cuts will be made by saving money on bureaucracy and will not compromise care, according to health representatives.

In addition to health policies, the Green Party are also aiming to raise the minimum wage, encourage the development and growth of small businesses, raise state pension payments and increase income tax for high earners; the money for these policies would be generated by scrapping the Trident nuclear weapons programme, which currently costs the government around 80 billion pounds.
